How About That Australian Barbecue Sauce

Australia is a wonderful place. Beautiful landscapes, bustling cities, huge wilderness and desert areas, and the friendliest people you have ever met. Australians love beer and barbecuing, and "throwing a shrimp on the Barbie," is a national pastime. Considering this, you would think the Australians would have an excellent variety of barbecue sauce. You would be wrong.

Everywhere I went, from Sydney to Adelaide the same fifty-fifty mix of ketchup and Worcestershire was the standard barbecue sauce, so I decided to take it on myself, to educate my new friends down-under in the glories and mysteries of real barbecue sauce.

The next morning, before the inevitable evening feast of beer and beef, I went shopping. Australia, like America, is a land of mixed cultures. Immigrants from all over the world have decided to make Australia their home, so it was very easy to find all the necessary ingredients in the shops and bodegas lining the streets. In no time, I was back in my flat cooking up a big batch of my own special, knock-down barbecue sauce.
