Unlike some foods, barbecue sauce reaches across all age barriers, races, and cultures. From the smallest of children who experience the savory stuff for the first time, to the old curmudgeon who has to put in his false teeth to chew his meat, everyone loves a good barbecue. The actual event of a cookout will also bridge gaps in multiple generations to bring people together and have common ground to stand on in a world where so much uncertainty dwells in all of us.

Many towns have big events for holidays, such as Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day. At these events you will find people of all types, genders, ages, and races enjoying great food. Sometimes this is the only time the whole community gets together at the same time, and while wiping the barbecue sauce from their collective faces they make friends, build neighborhoods, and gain a sense of togetherness. I've never seen a good grilling sauce make people reclusive, draw away from someone standing next to them, or start hating each other. I believe it is impossible to hate anyone if the food is good enough.
