Two American icons, barbecue sauce and the event of tailgating before a big sporting event, have become the perfect match amongst all those who partake in these activities. One feeds off of each other to create the incredibly enjoyable experience of going to a live sporting event and making it even better. The art of tailgating turns a simple "thing to do" for so many into a day long festival, and if you live in Green Bay or Buffalo, a weekend long festival!
Can you even imagine being in the parking lot with thousands of other fans cooking your meats on that grill and when you go to eat it there is no flavor and the meat is just dry? No. Instead, we all can imagine having that savory barbecue sauce dripping from a juicy and delicious piece of meat and delighting in the fact that you were there to enjoy it. No tailgate experience is right without great food, great company, and a festive attitude. Oh yeah, a great grilling sauce as well! No glorified ketchups will do when you are standing outside the stadium in sub zero temperatures trying to eat.

Life Without Barbecue Sauce, The Horror Of It All
Have you ever had a dream where something you desperately need or want is gone forever? Maybe it was just something that you love and cannot imagine surviving without. Imagine our world today in America without barbecue sauce. I know it sounds silly at first, but think how many things you would enjoy so much less without it. It would be a horribly ugly world with a lot less backyard cookouts, fewer tailgating events at sporting events, and more reason to stay cooped up in the house.
Think about those big Fourth of July picnics at the park. Can you imagine how much less fun they would be when you got a flavorless and dried out piece of meat to gnaw on with all your side dishes? Eating ribs without that savory barbecue sauce dripping from them just seems like a sacrilegious affair. Ultimately, there would no reason to even cook the stupid ribs if they were going to be so unenjoyable to eat. Soon we would all be at the park, drinking cold soda pops and beers while eating celery sticks and yogurt. Doesn't that sound so un-American?

You can turn that basic meatloaf into magic meatloaf when you replace the tomato sauce on top with a rich and savory barbecue sauce. These recipe ideas, as well as hundreds more, are there for the taking, if you only expand your mind and be a little brave. From Woodsman To The Urban City Dweller, The Widespread Use Of Barbecue Sauce
It used to be that only the wild and independent types were the ones grilling over open flames in the great outdoors. Those crazy eyed warriors who hunted their own food, did their own butchering, and cooked their meat while holding it on a stick. Then, as barbecue sauce became a more popular item, they started selling grills, even ones that came with little propane tanks. After that, stores dedicated to grilling started appearing and everyone was well on their way to becoming a bit more savage.
In modern days, the outdoorsman still unracks his rifle or bow, seeks out his prey, and will still butcher and cook his kill. In this world we live now there are the other types of hunters too, who wear flip-flops and a shirt with Hawaiian prints on it. They push their shopping carts carefully, slowly hunting out the right cut of beef or pork at the right price. Once they have locked onto a target they seize the moment, and another kill, or sale in this case, is made.

Childhood Memories: Christmas, Halloween, Fourth Of July, And Barbecue Sauce
For all the people who have fond memories of their childhoods, very few things can bring back those memories more than the taste and smell of barbecue sauce. Christmas always has its own file stashed away in the file cabinet of our minds, and many remember their Halloween fun too, but things like Independence Days at the park eating grilled food and running around with your friends until the fireworks went off at night are just as special. Food is such a strong trigger for great memories, and besides Thanksgiving, outdoor grilling moments always set in deeply.
So often we remember Thanksgiving so much for its general description more than isolated events. We remember mom's pumpkin pie or the great turkey, but it is because we have the same thing all at once every year, and just once a year. Christmas food is the same way, yet we remember our gifts more than the dinner. But backyard barbecues or town events at the park hold those memories tied to food and specific events for that special day.

Barbecue Sauce, The Universal Condiment
There are many condiments that can be used for various things. Some are simply used to add moisture to your food, like mayonnaise. You spread it on bread or add it to recipes to keep things as moist as you like them, but there is little flavor. Nobody ever tastes a food item and says, "I think it needs more mayonnaise." On the other hand, barbecue sauce is a universal crowd pleaser that with just a little bit added to a recipe can go a long way. Turning something bland and lifeless into something zesty, bold, or even daring!
How many other condiments do you use for dipping sauce? Sure, ketchup has its place in history as the companion to the French fries, except in France where they put mayonnaise on them. Mustard sauces can work for some things, but usually have to team up with honey to be worth anything. Barbecue sauce, on the other hand, can be used for all sorts of dipping experiences. Chicken nuggets, French fries, those little wieners with the toothpicks in them at parties, and even the occasional cheese stick might be enhanced with barbecue sauce.

Barbecue Sauce, The Condiment For Regular People
Barbecue sauce is the condiment of America, and the condiment of the regular people in this country. It is not something you will see served at the academy awards dinner, the presentation of the Nobel Prizes, or at a posh French restaurant in your city's uptown district. Caviar and barbecued ribs usually are not together in any way, shape, or form, and you will probably never see anyone drinking Dom Perignon while chomping down on their baby back ribs. But, for those of us not considered aristocratic elites, we use the grilling sauce often and find it delightful!
From middle management types to blue collar construction types, barbecue sauce is something we love to use in our cooking. For most of us there is no need for fancy mustards that come from a region in France that costs more than a weeks worth of wages. Instead, a simple bottle of a good grilling sauce will satisfy most of your needs. Certainly some ketchup or gold old-fashioned yellow mustard might help out, but fancy mint sauces or exotic animal gravies can remain with the rich folks.

Barbecue Sauce, Enjoyable For All Ages
Unlike some foods, barbecue sauce reaches across all age barriers, races, and cultures. From the smallest of children who experience the savory stuff for the first time, to the old curmudgeon who has to put in his false teeth to chew his meat, everyone loves a good barbecue. The actual event of a cookout will also bridge gaps in multiple generations to bring people together and have common ground to stand on in a world where so much uncertainty dwells in all of us.
Many towns have big events for holidays, such as Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day. At these events you will find people of all types, genders, ages, and races enjoying great food. Sometimes this is the only time the whole community gets together at the same time, and while wiping the barbecue sauce from their collective faces they make friends, build neighborhoods, and gain a sense of togetherness. I've never seen a good grilling sauce make people reclusive, draw away from someone standing next to them, or start hating each other. I believe it is impossible to hate anyone if the food is good enough.

What Kind Of Man Is He? Look At His Barbecue Sauce
While so many psychologists, gurus, and matchmakers try to determine who people are and try and predict what they will become by looking at their backgrounds, families, and other silly things, being a predictor of relationships is big business for the typical so called experts. Making money off of desperate or heart broken women is a money making endeavor for those who can talk with a silver tongue, and pretend to be sensitive. If these poor victims really did not want to be taken by these swindlers of love, they would merely take a look at how the man grills and what kind of barbecue sauce he uses to find out more about him.
If a man says he does not grill, or eat meat, or goes as far as saying he does not like the idea of outdoor cooking, you can make a real claim that he is either very refined, European, or just kind of a softy. He is probably the kind of guy you can push around, or he is merely from a rich family of wealth and privilege. If you are looking for the kind of guy who is afraid of getting barbecue sauce on his face, likes to sip wine, likes ballet, and wears a lot of sweaters, this might be the guy for you.

What Is Your Key Barbecue Sauce Ingredient?
There is an age-old question about what makes the perfect barbecue sauce
, or even what the main ingredient should be. From Kansas City to Houston, California to the Carolina coast, people seem to agree to disagree on the subject. Never has such a wide variance been such a topic when dealing with any other condiment. Everyone agrees that tomato is the main ingredient of Ketchup, or mustard seeds for mustard. Even Mayonnaise cannot really be disputed, nor the variable recipes for relish either. But grilling sauces are so numerous and of so many distinct flavors that the debate rages on.
In the Carolinas the key element in many of the sauces is vinegar. It could be malt vinegar, red wine vinegar, or some other variation, but these sauces originate with German immigrants who settled in the region, and the vinegar base carries over from their original sauces. A vinegar based barbecue sauce is unique, regionally distinctive, and flavorful as well.

What Is The Cost Of The Barbecue Sauce You Use?
For so many people the barbecue sauce they use is an afterthought to their grilling event. While initially you look at the sauce as a mere condiment, but it is actually vital to how good your food will actually taste. Once you think about the cost of all the meats you are going to be cooking, it is insane to think about using a cheap and lifeless sauce to cook with. Glorified ketchups do not do justice to what could be a great cookout. Sure, if you merely cooking up a few hotdogs and burgers for the kids, maybe, but if you are serving ribs, steaks, tri tips or poultry, don't go with the ketchup and sugar mix.
Barbecue sauce and its components are more important than many people think. Ones with higher Brix ratings will avoid burning for a longer period of time, and require less sauce to be used. These are often higher quality sauces, but well worth their seemingly higher price tag. Over the long haul, these types of sauces will cost you less than the cheap stuff, and provide a much better overall grilling experience. The cheap sauces with less fresh ingredients and more pure sugar elements will burn quickly and require a lot more sauce to do the same job.

To Slather, Pour, Or Brush On Your Barbecue Sauce
There is an age-old question in the world of grilling on how to apply your barbecue sauce. Techniques and degrees of skill are definitely a factor, and experience lends itself to the argument as well, but ultimately the answers are simple. The second question is when to apply your barbecue sauces, which again lends to skill levels and understanding what type of grilling you are doing. Slow cooking, dry rubs, and regional styles such as Kansas City or Memphis, Texas style, or are you a Carolina guy, will all determine when, how, and why you do what you do.
Some folks like to lightly brush their meat with their grilling sauce. This is fine if you are someone who wants only a hint of the sauce flavor, and want more pure meat taste. Or you are a neat freak who is worried about cleaning the grill, and your clothes later.

The Domain Of Man, Barbecue Sauce
In the world today many things that used to be the man's domain has become integrated with a woman's touch or influence. Few things still remain dominated by men, but one of those places is the world of barbecue sauce. Yes, you will see an occasional woman in a grilling competition, but that world of charcoal and cooking meats over fire is still as manly as ever, and keeps us connected with our Neanderthal ancestors.
Much of this primal action relates back to the simple perspective of hunting a wild beast, cutting it up, and putting it on the fire. How many women do you know like to butcher an animal and then stand over a hot fire with smoke in their face while they throw down slabs of raw carcasses onto the flames? Men, on the other hand find this not only relaxing but also enjoyable! Adding the barbecue sauce to the meat only makes that experience that much more satisfying when the freshly butchered meat is ready to eat.

Thank The Native Americans For Your Barbecue Sauce
Native Americans were in North America for thousands of years before the European settlers arrived to discover the new world. Their immense knowledge of the land helped them produce and use all that it had to offer. When Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto arrived in the Caribbean he saw the natives cooling game meats over open fire on wooden racks. He gave the practice the term "Barbacoa," which was an adaptation of an Arwak Indian word, which meant, "to cook over coals." This was the beginning of an American obsession with grilling and an industry of barbecue sauce and barbecue supplies that is growing still today.
While we hear so much about Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims who arrived at Plymouth to have the great feast with the Indian tribes of the Northeast, we rarely hear about De Soto and his experience with the grilling. While we all love that turkey and cranberry sauce during the holiday season, we Americans absolutely adore our outdoor grilling slathered in some kind of barbecue sauce. We love it so much that we even grill our turkeys sometimes for Thanksgiving! The discovery of the outdoor grilling is truly much more significant in many ways than the great Pilgrim story we are all so familiar with.

How Much Do You Know About Barbecue Sauce?
While there are so many of us that use barbecue sauce so often, there are many people who know very little about the stuff. Everyone seems to know some of the hotbeds of grilling sauce world, like Kansas City, Chicago, Memphis, or Texas. They know that in the south they are serious about their sauces as well, but they know very little outside of that.
Here is a little history lesson about barbecue sauce. The term barbecue actually was coined by Hernando De Soto when he landed in the Caribbean and discovered the natives cooking meat over open flames on big wooden racks. He called it "Barbacoa" which is an Arwak Indian term that translates to, " to cook over coals." It is funny how some guy cooking his bratwurst in the parking lot of Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wisconsin before a Packer game can be connected with the great explorer De Soto and the Arwak Indians!

The History Of Barbecue Sauce How The Spanish Inquisition Influenced Southern Style Barbecue Sauce
It was the Spanish who introduced the Americas and the American Indians to the pig. In return, the Indians instructed the Spanish on how to slowly cook the meat, and cure it with vinegar and spices, by smoking the meat over an open fire. So it was within this fateful gathering of these two cultures that barbecue began in America- dating all the way back to the early 1500's.
One of the first colonies in the Americas, to begin with, was North Carolina. The first Spanish explorers that you read about in the history books in all actuality were Conquistadors who were into gold as a conquest, not colonization.
The actual Spanish colonists arrived earlier in the beginning of the 1500's located themselves in South Carolina where they named it Santa Elena. They established in what is now called Port Royal within the county of Beaufort.

All About Barbecue Sauce In 90 Seconds Or Less!
What would grilling or barbecue be without barbecue sauce? Either slowly cooking into the meat in a barbecue, or forming a thick tasty glaze on grilled food, outdoor cooking just would not be the same without a good bbq sauce. Barbecue sauces vary from region to region, and from chef to chef. If you go to North Carolina, you'd find a thin, vinegar based sauce, soaking into the thin shreds of pulled pork.
In Kansas City, they like their sauce thick and sweet. If you go to Texas, you'll find a thinner sauce than you'd find in Kansas City, and less sweet. Barbecue sauces are usually categorized according to their base. Sauces can be based on ketchup, tomato sauce, mustard, vinegar, even mayonnaise. Depending on the base, and the preference of the cook, they can be thick or thin, sweet, sour, spicy, mild, or any combination. A basic barbecue sauce consists of several elements, each adding another layer of flavor and complexity to the sauce.

Did Someone Say Sloppy Joe's With Barbecue Sauce?
Traditionally, a Sloppy Joe is ground beef with vegetables such as celery, onions and/or bell pepper cooked with tomato sauce and served on buns. It started off as a dinner time meal in the Southern US states, made popular by working mothers because of their ease of preparation. The earliest traceable published recipe of the Sloppy Joe is from MacCall's Cookbook published in 1963, This year it's with barbecue sauce!
It entailed sauteing 1/2 lb. of ground beef together with 1 lb. of a beans-and-ground-beef mix in barbecue sauce in a skillet in medium heat. Once the ground beef changes from a red to a brown color, then add the beans-and-ground-beef mix in barbecue sauce together with catsup. Let this simmer for 5 minutes. Split the hamburger buns in the middle and toast them for a minute. Once the beef and beans mixture is cooked scoop this over the toasted buns and serve, and don't forget to add the mouth watering barbecue sauce.

What Really Is A Barbecue Sauce Party!
Condiments are substances applied to food to improve or enhance flavor. They usually come in the form of powders, spreads and sauces. A condiment is typically squirted, sprinkled or smeared, with commercially prepared condiment products often packaged in plastic or glass containers. Some are served as single-serving packets too as what is common in cafeterias and airlines. Of course, barbecue sauce parties and cookouts are never complete without a steady supply of condiments.
Condiments and Smashing Barbecue Sauce Parties
Nothing spoils a barbecue quicker than a shortage of condiments. Whether it's ketchup, hot sauce, mustard, relish or barbecue sauce, finding yourself running low on any of these items can spell disaster for a party. You see, a condiment gives food that added kick to keep people coming back for more. Further, half the fun of eating is being able to adjust the taste of the food to suit each individual's particular taste buds so without condiments, people will have a tough time managing this.
Holding a hit barbecue event isn't easy. But if you keep your shelves well-stocked in the condiment department, you're halfway there. Here are other tips to ensure your next barbecue is a smashing success.

Slow Roasted Beef Ribs In Maple Barbecue Sauce
You can use "Texas Beef Ribs" in this recipe. Plan on letting the ribs marinate inside of the barbecue mix for 48 hours and serve with coleslaw, corn bread, and plenty of ice cold lemon tea. But the ribs will still be delicious if they marinate for only 8 hours, so no need to panic as they are slow roasted on an open fire.
Ask your family and your guest what they like and depending on your or your guest taste buds this barbecue sauce can be as mild or as spicy as you like; add hot pepper sauce accordingly. It also works well with pork, chicken, or shrimp.
The Barbecue Sauce:
13/4 cups ketchup
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 cup chopped scallions or fresh chives
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Give Me That Good Ol' Barbecue Sauce!
Stuck somewhere between ketchup and a dry rub is barbecue sauce. While not as common as ketchup, bbq has become a complex American condiment that is prepared differently across the country and heightens the flavor of meat. The ingredients typically include: ketchup, vinegar, sugar, garlic, onion and mustard. But, it's the consistency and variations that create regional differences coast to coast, and that's why your mouth starts to water when you think about this traditional favorite.
There are three landmark periods in the history of barbecue sauce. While there is no exact time, place and person to be credited with its invention, historians link its use back to America in the 1600s with its spread to Europe over the next 200 years. The original uses were to mask harsh gamy flavors.n foods that were new to the colonial settlers. The Louis Maull Co. marketed the first bottled barbecue sauce to Midwesterners in 1926. Pittsburgh's H.J. Heinz Cos. nationally distributed its sauce in 1948.A burgeoning consumer food culture of the 1990s led to a third boom for barbecue sauce. Spurred by the growth of the Food Network television channel, specialty sauces came on the market. These sauces employed differing levels of spices, sweetness and flavors, ranging from teriyaki to smoke-flavored.

One of the reasons for the popularity with the Memphis Style rib is its unique blend of barbeque tradition and flavorful seasonings. The only sauce applied to Memphis Style ribs is mop sauce used for basting during the cooking process. Barbecue sauce is never used during the cooking process but rather served on the side with the ribs at the table.
Because a barbecue sauce is not used, the mop sauce is an important component in keeping the meat moist. A Memphis Style BBQ sauce will be a tomato and vinegar based sauce that may also contain mustard. With this style, the quality of the meat is much more important then any sauce. The idea is to feature the meat rather then covering it up with a sauce. While some people can't wait to dip the ribs in their favorite barbeque sauce, others enjoy the pure flavor of just the meat and rub seasoning. Memphis style ribs are traditionally smoked and not grilled, baked or broiled. White oak and hickory are the traditional woods used however many other woods are now used. Other woods used include apple and cherry.

Barbecue Sauce By Region The Different Kinds
Barbecue is a cherished example of the cultural heritage of the South to most Southerners, but within the region, debate as to the nature of barbecue rages on. While barbecue sauce loving Southerners agree that the "Northern" definition of barbecue a cookout in the back garden is ludicrous, barbecue aficionados also like to argue about what constitutes true Southern barbecue. State by state, and even town by town, no method is exactly alike.
The one non-debatable component of barbecue is pork, and the South is bounded by the parameters of the "barbecue belt" (Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina). With apologies to the dedicated barbecue sauce chefs of Owensboro and south-western Texas, Kentucky's misbegotten notion of mutton, and the beef and mesquite of Texas simply do not qualify as barbecue, and these regions will not be closely examined here. Why do the regional differences in pig roasting merit attention? Barbecue is emblematic of a lot of things in the South despite intra-regional differences, barbecue is barbecue all over the Southern United States. We may argue about which kind is the best barbecue, but very few people assert that the different types are not part of a vital (and delicious) Southern tradition. Despite the Americanization of Dixie, the South has maintained a distinct regional flavour that makes it special, different from any other part of the United States.

Cooking With Barbecue Sauce, No Forks Required
The one element of cooking outdoors and having a gathering of friends and family over the grill is that whatever you are serving will usually not require any utensils to eat. Sure, if you are making a steak you might, but normally anything you slather with barbecue sauce is designed to eat with your hands. If you have side dishes that require a fork, like potato salad, a fork might be optional, but the essence of outdoor cooking is about returning to your primal instincts, and eating without silverware.
Beyond the obvious fruit salad and beans that need a utensil, the big part of enjoying the grilling experience is to be able to relax, be less formal, and eat with the tools God provided you, your hands. The feel of grasping that rib and chomping into it has a certain feel to it. It is somewhat animalistic, and for most guys it feels good. Sure, you may wear a suit to work during the week as you are a mild mannered accountant for a big firm downtown, but on the weekend you are a heathen, a direct descendant of your Cro-Magnon brethren, and you will rip the charred flesh from the bone and leave that barbecue sauce all over your face the rest of the day! That is essence of man at its finest.

The Barbecue Sauce Of Restaurants
At the beginning of the twentieth century, barbecue and barbecue sauce appeared in a new venue, that of the barbecue restaurant. After the South went from a rural-agricultural region to a more urban and industrial area, grocery stores provided pig meat, agricultural fairs replaced festive pig killings, and the barbecue restaurant took over the time-consuming task of slow-cooking pork.
Usually, these restaurants grew out of a simple barbecue pit where the owner sold barbecue and barbecue sauce to take away. Many of the pit men only opened on weekends, working (usually on a farm) during the week and tending the pit on weekends. The typical barbecue shack consisted of a bare concrete floor surrounded by a corrugated tin roof and walls (Johnson 9). Soon, stools and tables were added, and the ubiquitous pig adorned the outside of the building.

Barbecue Sauce, Public Enemy Number One Amongst Cows, Pigs, And Chickens
While man has been a hunter and gatherer since he arrived on the planet, there have not been too many things more than barbecue sauce that has created so many animals to be eaten. With so many delicious varieties of sauces and marinades created of the centuries, they have only enhanced the grilling experience. If these things had not been invented, man may have gotten bored with having to hunt down these animals and resorted to more farming and gathering of the slower and easier to catch berries and nuts.
Instead of resorting to a life of eating grub worms and plants, man evolved to creating easier ways to track down and ultimately eat better tasting animals. Barbecue sauce only gave him more zeal for wanting to eat meat, and made all that energy burnt up on the hunt worthwhile. This passion for the hunt even took to figuring out how to catch and eat animals that fly, swim, and even ones that could kill you in the process. In making meat so flavorful, it may be that many a man was put in harms way just trying to catch a delicious but dangerous animal. Some might say it is a worthy cause though, knowing how much they love their barbecue.

Barbecue Sauce, An American Icon
Since the days of the old west, America has been known for its bold and daring ways, its independent spirit, and its brash and often fearless swagger that has earned both envy and scorn from the rest of the planet. Our food has shown to follow suit with these ideals and you don't have to look much further than the creation and varieties of barbecue sauce that we use. No, my friend, this is no Hollandaise sauce or fancy bullion based glorified soup poured over braised lamb, this is hearty, flavorful, and often will kick you in the butt, pure American ass kicking grilling sauce! It is as traditional and distinctively American as Buffalo Bill Cody and Calamity Jane.
Not too many things are more in tune with Americana as the barbecue sauce. Many people around the globe have never been to this great land and may look to the modern world of Hollywood and New York City lore, but when asked about American history they all know about the cowboy, gunfighters, and wide open ranges with great tribes of Native Americans lead by Sitting Bull and other great chiefs. They know about Tombstone Arizona, Wyatt Earp, and legendary gunfights at the OK Corral. Along with all these pieces of folklore they also know that the barbecue comes with the great outdoors. People travel from lands near and far to see what Texas grilling is about, or why Kansas City has such flavorful food. They want to understand this part of America, and

Barbecue Sauce, Not Just A Condiment Anymore
For many years barbecue sauce was simply something of an afterthought in our culture. Much like Ketchup or mayonnaise, it was looked at as a simple condiment that merely assisted in flavoring meats. While this may have been true in the past, today there has been an increased importance on this incredible sauce. It is not merely a relish or dipping sauce, but something that can give basic meats a life of their own, or create an everlasting memory for someone who had an incredible dining experience at a special event. No ketchup has ever done that, nor has any mustard either. No, barbecue sauce is much more than a condiment.
If barbecue sauce were merely a simple condiment, there would not be so many varieties and flavors being sold around the globe. Take a look at the section in your local grocery store and count all the varieties of flavors, brands, and uses. Then step over the ketchup and do the same. Even the mustards, with their gourmet flavors are limited in use, and all ultimately can only taste somewhat different. Mayonnaise, forget about it, there is either real or fake varieties, and what special flavor does it have? None. Also, would you even think of spreading any of these things onto your grilled meat? No way, not by themselves. Mustard is used in some Carolina sauces, but it is only the starting point to a great sauce, and does not stand alone as something more than a condiment.

The Origins Of Barbecue Sauce: Atlantis
Atlantis, according to some experts, was the most ancient of all the civilizations on earth, and the most advanced. According to legend, thousands of years before the first Egyptians started cultivating the Nile delta, the people of Atlantis had already developed language, astronomy, agriculture, and the culinary arts to level only achieved in the last century or so. Unfortunately, Atlantis disappeared beneath the seas before the beginnings of written history. Many historians believe the survivors of the disaster that befell Atlantis, were the founders of our modern world.
Recent research has determined that the ancient Minoans, from the Island of Crete, may in fact be the direct descendants of the Atlanteans. The Minoan civilization thrived and prospered, for millennia before the dawn of history, and was destroyed overnight by some un-as-yet explained cataclysm. Many scholars believe that when Plato wrote of Atlantis, it was actually Minos.

The Best Gifts Are Given With Barbecue Sauce On Them
Have you ever wondered what to give someone for their birthday, anniversary, or even Christmas? Well, for most men especially, they would much rather have something to eat than many of the things they wind up with. Christmas is probably the worst for many men, tight, ugly itchy sweaters, and ties they never wear, or cheap aftershave is common. Don't you think he'd rather have a rack of ribs smothered in a rich and tangy barbecue sauce? It sounds silly at first, but then you realize that the simple pleasures of great food are a wonderful and thoughtful gift.
For all you women out there always wondering what to give your husband for your anniversary, look no further. Instead of mushy cards and candies, silky underwear, or a fancy night out at the opera, throw the guy a barbecue with his friends, some cold beer, and again, the ribs with the barbecue sauce. He will appreciate it much more than having to put on that itchy sweater and listen to opera, or even worse, watch ballet.

Barbecue Sauce On Prom Night
My grandmother and I were sitting in the kitchen one evening, waiting for my younger sister to return from the beauty parlor. It was prom night, and we were both excited for her. I was sewing the final stitches in the hem of her gown, and Grandma was preparing a batch of her extra-special barbecue sauce, for the after-prom dinner to be held in the gym. It was my sister's senior prom, and she had been nominated for prom queen, so we were all atwitter. Our excitement turned to dismay on her arrival. Her hair was a disaster.
With tears running down her cheeks, my sister explained she had asked for a light blonde frosting, but something went wrong with the mix, and the more the beautician tried to fix it, the worse it got. It was really bad. Her hair was green, pink, and orange all mixed together, and short of a buzz cut, I couldn't imagine any way to fix it in time for the prom. Grandma looked up from the almost finished barbecue sauce, and told my sister to never mind, as soon as the sauce was done, she'd set things right. With that, she squeezed a couple of fresh limes into the brew on the stove, followed by a shot glass of tequila, into the barbecue sauce, not grandma.

The Straight History Of Barbecue Sauce
Barbecue sauce recipes have a clearly distinctive Southern and Western U.S. history. Most historians have agreed that the cooking process of adding barbecue sauce and spices to meat and fish began within the beginning settlement in our pilgrim history, with Native Americans giving instructions in the skill to early European settlers.
The natives probably formed the process as part of an attempt to keep meats and fish from spoiling rapidly. Salt played a chief role in those early barbecue sauce recipes, and salt is a famous preservative in the meat curing method.
Because the Nations first European arrivals migrated to the East Coast of America, that part of the country is accredited with creating the original barbecue sauce recipes. Moreover, there are the different types Carolina barbecue sauce recipes. The most universally known are East Carolina, Piedmont, and South Carolina formulas.

Bachelor Party Barbecue Sauce What Happened
Let us begin with a little fact-checking. You're an employed, single guy, with your own place. You eat a lot of fast food because you can't cook worth a damn, and aren't that interested in learning how. Tonight is football night, and your buddies are coming over for wings, beer, and the game. Your favorite barbecue joint has just been shut down by the health inspector, and you don't know where to get the necessary wings. So listen up, here's what you're going to do.
Go shopping. Stop by the local thrift store and buy a medium sized sauce pan, then get about five pounds of fresh, not frozen, chicken wings, some ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, a couple of onions, some brown sugar, a lime or two, a very small can of jalapeno peppers, and a bottle of red wine, at the local grocers. You can get all of it for less than fifteen bucks. Go home, put the saucepan on the stovetop, put the wings in the oven, on the oven rack, and turn the oven to 350. Chop up the onions, and throw them into the sauce pan, squeeze the limes over the onions, then pour all the other stuff on top of that, except for the jalapenos, and, be sure to test the red wine before you add it to your soon-to-be barbecue sauce. Turn the burner on to low, and leave it alone.

How About That Australian Barbecue Sauce
Australia is a wonderful place. Beautiful landscapes, bustling cities, huge wilderness and desert areas, and the friendliest people you have ever met. Australians love beer and barbecuing, and "throwing a shrimp on the Barbie," is a national pastime. Considering this, you would think the Australians would have an excellent variety of barbecue sauce. You would be wrong.
Everywhere I went, from Sydney to Adelaide the same fifty-fifty mix of ketchup and Worcestershire was the standard barbecue sauce, so I decided to take it on myself, to educate my new friends down-under in the glories and mysteries of real barbecue sauce.
The next morning, before the inevitable evening feast of beer and beef, I went shopping. Australia, like America, is a land of mixed cultures. Immigrants from all over the world have decided to make Australia their home, so it was very easy to find all the necessary ingredients in the shops and bodegas lining the streets. In no time, I was back in my flat cooking up a big batch of my own special, knock-down barbecue sauce.

A Barbecue Sauce Bedtime Story
Once upon a time, there was a cute little girl who couldn't go to sleep. She was lying in bed, with her cat curled up beside her, which was very comfortable and cozy, but she was restless, and grumpy. After a while, the cat woke up, took a long back-bending stretch, and sauntered off. The little girl decided, since she couldn't sleep, she would follow the cat, just for fun.
She followed the cat, whose name, by the way, was Adrian, out side, and then, Adrian, with a quick look around him, scooted off into the woods. She followed him without making a sound, and after a few minutes, they came to a small clearing, by the creek. She couldn't believe her eyes! There must have been fifty cats in that clearing, and they we having a barbecue! They were also playing cards, smoking cigars, and some of them were dancing to a kitty band.

The Common And The Specialty Barbecue Sauce
When discussing the varieties and types of barbecue sauce that exist on the market today, you could go on and on for days and still not touch on all of them. The two basic groups of sauces are the common and well-known brands and types, and then the specialty sauces that target a narrow group or specific flavor for an individual recipe. The common sauces have their use in that they can be used on a large variety of meats and in many different ways, while the specialty sauces may be designed for one type of meat or a certain cooking method.
In the common sauce market, most of the barbecue sauce varieties are the sweet and tomato based products most associated with the Kansas City style of grilling. These sauces are tasty, easy to use, and have sub-categories of their own usually based on flavors. Some are brown sugar based, others sweetened with honey, and some a little spicier than others. Hickory smoked flavoring is popular for the beef eating crowd, and tangy varieties are also sprouting up more and more as this market expands in popularity. Regardless of which of these sauces you choose, they all can be used on beef, pork, poultry, and sometimes fish, and are easy to use as you usually merely add the sauce in the latter stages of cooking and let the sauce work it's magic.

How Barbecue Sauce Can Win You Elections
While nobody ever became president because of a great barbecue sauce, (except maybe Lyndon Johnson), a great tasting sauce served to large crowds or small gatherings can win you friends. This is a crucial stage in any realm of influence and is not a bad thing even if you are not running for public office. Having more friends and being more popular is important for the mayor, the president, or just to be a good neighbor.
Lyndon Johnson was the Vice-President and in charge of the space program when the Mercury Astronauts were pioneering the program. If you have ever seen the movie The Right Stuff, you will remember how he honored the seven men near the end of the movie. He threw a big Texas barbecue for them! I can assure you they had a great barbecue sauce on those ribs that day. Johnson, due to the tragic events of John F. Kennedy being assassinated became president, and most assuredly threw a few barbecues while in the White House.

Choosing the right barbecue sauce recipe is equivalent to having to decide which one of your children you love the most. It's just not that black and white of a decision to make.
If you are researching for the right barbecue sauce, you more than likely will be able to find it wherever you go. Basically, if you are down in Memphis and you inquire about what is the best barbecue sauce recipe, most of the individuals who live there will tell you that it is the Memphis style sauce. It's like wherever you go, there you are.
Without going into all of the history and background of this particular region in the south, let's just agree that barbecue sauce varies by what region of the country you are in. If anything is in concert within the world of barbecue, it is that barbecue sauce is different depending on where you are at.

Using Barbecue Sauce To Win Friends
Throughout history mankind has come together and gathered over food. In the modern world, this event has become an even bigger expression of social significance. Whether it is a grand dining event with tuxedos and evening wear, or the more common backyard cookout, the basic premise of providing quality food for guests remains a constant. In the informal cookout setting, the selection of a top-notch barbecue sauce could be the ticket to winning over new friends and influencing people to believe they are experiencing something extraordinary.
At first glance you would think that just a simple thing like a selection of barbecue sauce is not that important in planning a big event, and in the grand scheme of things it might not be the most important thing most of the time. Although, if you use the right sauce that makes your food not only open up the magic of some great barbecue but leaves your guests talking days later, you have just created something of a more mythic proportion. Your cookout will become something of local legend, and it will soon become the "in" thing to do when people show up at your next event.

Homemade Barbecue Sauce That Promotes A Healthy Immune System
With so many artificial additives these days, one can quickly see why a homemade barbecue sauce makes so much sense primarily because of many children's intolerance.
Creating a homemade barbecue sauce is simple and there are so many sauces that can be made up within 20 minutes which is great timing for getting your charcoal ready for cooking.
If you're into your health take note. Most barbecue sauce recipes use ketchup as their primary base but using a tin of chopped tomatoes is the wise thing to do. Here is the reason why.
Tomatoes are a fantastic source of lycopene for a barbecue sauce which is a health promoting pigment within the plant pigment that gives tomatoes the red color. Lycopene is great for supporting the immune system to help fight chronic fatigue which in many cases can end up leading to depression and irritability. Most often tinned vegetables and fruits are not recommended over fresh ones, but in this case they are.

Call It What You Want, It Is Still Barbecue Sauce
All over the globe there are many different sauces used to grill meats. Ultimately whatever you call it, however you say it, or whatever it tastes like, they are all barbecue sauces. From the chimi-churri sauce of South America, the Teriyaki sauces of Japan, the Hoisin Sauce of China, or the multitude of variations here in America such as the South Carolina mustard sauces or the sweet tomato based sauces of St. Louis and Kansas City, they all have one thing in common, to make our meats taste great.
Chimi-churri sauce is a parsley based green sauce most often seen in Argentina and Uruguay, as well as other places in South America. This sauce has made it's way north as far as Mexico and is used as a condiment, a marinade, and a barbecue sauce. There is a red variation of this sauce as well.

The Popular Trend Of The Barbecue Sauce
Across the nation and around the globe there is a big trend in the culinary markets swirling around the uses and flavors of barbecue sauce. While it has always had it's place at the family cookout or the traditional areas such as Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis, the modern trend is now broader than ever. Places where people actually sit down with cloth napkins and fine wines are beginning to serve more barbecue options, along with a growing trend for bottling and selling their individual sauces. No longer for the wild outdoors and western cowboys, the sauce of choice has now arrived.
The most popular selling spots continue to put out great grilled meats slathered in barbecue sauce as they always have, yet such things as baby back ribs and grilled chicken have crept onto a plethora of menus across the country. Barbecue Sauce With A Spicy Espresso Kick
Now here is a spicy hot espresso coffee barbecue sauce for all of you caffeine addicts out there! Pouring coffee on my food is not really all that appealing to me, but after trying this recipe with all of the spicy ingredients mixed together, it's really not all that bad and decaf works just as well if you don't want your sauce to hype you up.
The main secret to this barbecue sauce is of course using good quality coffee- always try to shoot for a top quality espresso just like you would get in Italy, strong and thick in texture and finely brewed to perfection. Not being a huge coffee drinker I don't really get this craving for tiny little cup full with a little bit of added sugar until I got a taste for Italy.
After eating at a fine, authentic Italian restaurant for lunch one afternoon I got a shot of adrenaline after eating a fine meal. So listen up my friends, this barbecue sauce is not for the faint of heart because it will give you a swift kick in the pants.

A Barbecue Sauce Tale
My Uncle Arthur liked to talk, and a taste for telling fibs, so naturally he informed the best stories you ever heard. We'd really turn the TV off, when he started one of his tall tales. My favorite was his version of my granddad's automobile accident, an event that happened at least twenty years ago, and the tale had improved with every passing year. Each one of us youngsters called it his barbecue sauce story, and it goes something similar to this :
'My dad, that's your granddad, liked bbq sauce better than anything on God's green earth,' he would begin,'He would put it on everything he ate, even chocolate cake, and if he didn't have barbecue sauce on something, once or more a day, he would get a little cranky, and it was not that cosy to be around him when he was,' Uncle Arthur continued with a chuckle.
To start things off, I employed the last of the barbecue sauce on my eggs that morning, so father failed to get any for breakfast.

Sweet Home Alabama White Barbecue Sauce
Traditionally, Alabama white barbecue sauce is an incredible healthy low carb tasty alternative as its base is mayonnaise rather than tomato. Because it needs to rest for about twelve hours after preparation, you will need to prepare this recipe a day ahead of time before serving in order to get the best results from this sauce.
It works fantastically for white meat like chicken and fish, but you can also use it on a burger, too.
Here is an important tip: Mayonnaise is a liquid that does not hold together very well when heated, so its better to use this sauce like you would use mayonnaise on most things that you eat. Try adding it to the meat after it is cooked rather than brushing it on during the cooking process.
However, you can brush it onto the grill, but you will have to be careful as to not overheat the barbecue sauce in order to avoid separation.Take a good look at the ingredients- no added sugar and it is low in carbs. Combine this with a low calorie, light mayonnaise and you have got a very healthy barbecue sauce.

Classic Or Gourmet BBQ Sauce For Your Steak?
When I used to be a kid, I had a dog named Prince. I didn't name him, he came that way, he also came with the sort of bad attitude only a small dog can have. Prince was some kind of spaniel dachshund mix, and was sort of funny looking, but he was also extraordinarily loyal, he loved everyone in the family, and he was a brilliant watchdog. The one thing that scared him was fireworks, and each fourth of July, at the first bang of the first firecracker he would disappear for one or two days.
My siblings and I adored the fourth. Back then, you could buy any amount of finger dumping small explosives, and we always stocked up. We also loved the 4th
We'd invite the neighbors and have a gigantic cook-out from about 2 in the afternoon, until midnight.
Up to that time, I did not know a skunk could spray on the run, but that is's just what it probably did, as Prince closed in. That skunk gave him both barrels, and then some. It all occurred so fast, my uncle and I did not have time to get within, but the skunk was far enough away from us, so we didn't get sprayed. Prince, on the other hand, was embarrassed that some kind of cat-like animal had bested him, and failed to even notice how terrible he smelled, being a fan of sharp odors, like all dogs are. He ran back to us for a sympathy pat, which he did not get.
He then dumped the whole thing on Prince. 'Tomato juice will get rid of that skunk smell, and there's some of that in my bbq sauce...

Condiments: Why Barbecue Sauce Is Often Over looked
Often times when people think of barbecue sauce they fail to grasp the possibilities behind it. Barbecue sauce is often belittled and pushed aside in the condiment world, when in fact it is one of the only seasonings that country competitions are held for and awards are given. Have you ever heard of a ketchup or mayo competition where competitors spend several years perfecting their recipes just to have the best seasoning that at last will just compliment a meal? No, that's because there are not competitions for those condiments, only barbecue sauce.
Barbecue sauce has a huge and wide range of chances and suppleness. It could be a marinade, a dressing, or an addition to a steak or burger. There are multiple different typed and different tastes, they all have that same underlining kick though that gives it an excellence from others.
