So What's With Barbecue Sauce Competitions Anyways?

In the south they take barbecue sauce very seriously. So seriously in fact that there are national competitions held annually to see who has the best of the best when it comes to barbecue sauce and grilling. From different kinds of meant like pork, ham, turkey, chicken, and steak, to different kinds of homemade sauces, like smoked, honey, jalapeno, guava and classic are just a few of the sauces that are used.

These competitions attract competitors who have been doing this for years, new to the game but thing they have something to offer or old timers who each defeat going home to perfect their sauce for another year. A little of this and a little of that, year after year. Some competitors are even second and third generation bbq sauce creators.
There is even a National Barbecue Association that hosts competitions, gives advice to sauces, and is on the up and up of the barbecue world. With so much jazz there must be something worth while when it comes to this condiment.
